TUES SEPT 5

STUDIO BÉLUGA E(É)S VISUAL ART EXPOSITION VERNISSAGE @ THÉÂTRE SAINTE-CATHERINE CAFÉ-BAR.

A dozen young women from Montreal’s visual arts community – all from various fields : tattooing, street art, embroidery, etc. – gather together to offer the fruit of their creativity.

The mandate of E(É)S was to have women react visually to original poetic texts. They were given complete freedom of interpretation. Each illustrator was first called upon to represent a text personally attributed to them. They then interpreted a second and common text, depicting the various perspectives possible from a same and single point of departure.

1 author
12 illustrators
13 texts
24 artworks

Wishing to generate a dialogue between writing and drawing, the É(E)S project aims to pay tribute to the power of creative feminine association as well as to the potential of genre hybridization.

SATURDAY SEPT 9

8PM JOKETOWN @ THEATRE SAINTE-CATHERINE

For the two years Joketown has run amok, most mayors using the town hall as if it had a revolving door and never staying longer than two terms in a row! Our current Queen, Deirdre Trudeau, has been good and benevolent (and most of all, very very funny). But her rule has been called into question- for it is too good to be true! The citizens of Joketown have begged- and we have listened. It is time to elect a new MATRIARCH. And what better candidates than our former mayor-ladies!

This Ladyfest some of the greatest artist-comedian-actors of Montreal have gathered to build the cast of Joketown, a short comedy show wherein these Pun Politicians™ will write, produce, and perform FIVE BRAND NEW COMEDIES in LESS THAN A WEEK to stake their claims for Queen of Joketown. Come exercise your democratic right to vote- the winner IS brought into power by audience applause after all

Featuring: Deirdre Trudeau, Tatyana Olal, Kelly Kay, Tracy Hurren, Sehar Manji, Lar Simms, Sandi Armstrong, Alex Brown, Martha Graham, Nicky Fournier, Alison Naturale, Erin Hall, Dana El-saleh, Laura Buchanan & Kate Lindner

10PM  THE DOWNSTAIRS MIXUP @ THEATRE SAINT-CATHERINE

The Downstairs Mix-Up is a show where comedians, improvisors, story-tellers and beyond are invited to share their talents in ways that they came up with maybe in a dream and that break down barriers of what can make people laugh! This is a full-on OPEN-CONCEPT comedy show. Poems? Short plays? Characters? Straight up absurdity? As long as it counts as funny, we are your (wo)man(s)!

Hosted by Rachel Gendron and Emma Wilkie

Featuring: Tranna Wintour (MTL), Laura Flynn (MTL), Alon Azimov (MTL), Tatyana Olal (MTL), Bianca Yates (MTL), Emery Fine (MTL), Coko & Daphney (TOR), D.J. Mausner (MTL) & Iain MacNeil (MTL)
